Active Community Development Organization (ACDO) is a not-for-profit, membership-based Non Governmental Organization (NGO) established on 14 December 2020 and re-registered in 2021 under the Societies Act No. 9 of 1995, with Registration Number Z0000135592. ACDO was founded to respond to youth challenges and to advance inclusive, rights-based, and climate-resilient sustainable development in Tanzania, including Zanzibar. ACDO works in close partnership with communities to promote environmental conservation and climate action through sustainable, climate-smart skills and technologies that mitigate the impacts of climate change while addressing inequality and vulnerability. The organization adopts a community-led approach that places youth and marginalized groups at the center of development planning, implementation, and decision-making. In addition to climate and environmental programming, ACDO strengthens community health and wellbeing through awareness, prevention, and support services related to HIV/AIDS, TB, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), with a strong focus on youth, women, and marginalized populations. Guided by principles of gender equality, human rights, and social justice, ACDO supports the empowerment and protection of women, girls, gender and sexual minorities, Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), and persons with disabilities. Over the years, ACDO has collaborated closely with government institutions, national and international partners, donors, and organizations of persons with disabilities to implement inclusive programs, including initiatives that empower blind and visually impaired communities.
